LYSAKER, NORWAY and SHANGHAI — Aker QRILL Company and Gambol Pet Food Group announced they have signed a global cooperation agreement, elevating the companies’ relationship to focus on pet food innovation and sustainability.
Founded in 2006, Gambol Pet offers a range of dog and cat foods, spanning dry, wet and treat formats. The company operates three R&D centers and 16 factories throughout China and Thailand and has an annual production capacity of 182,000 tons. Gambol Pet’s products are exported to 33 countries across Europe, North America, Japan and South Korea.
As a leading krill company, Aker QRILL provides premium ingredients for animal nutrition with sustainability top of mind. The company has been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) since 2006, placing ecological responsibility at the core of its business and operations.
According to Gambol Pet, Aker QRILL’s sustainability practices make it a natural fit for the pet food company.
“Aker’s approach aligns perfectly with our core belief in respecting the nature of dogs and cats,” said Stephanie Du, president of Gambol Pet. “True pet nutrition means respecting animals as independent beings.”
The partnership will focus on:
- Joint R&D that will combine Aker QRILL’s marine nutrition research and Gambol Pet’s insights on pet behavior to develop new, exclusive nutrition solutions
- Collaboration on environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives that includes promoting animal welfare and marine protection throughout Gambol Pet’s supply chain
- Brand co-creation that marries science with sustainability to communicate with global consumers
“Protecting the ocean is the most meaningful long-term commitment we can make — for pets and future generations,” Du said. “Gambol Pet is proud to stand alongside Aker QRILL Company as practitioners and advocates of marine ecological protection.”
According to the companies, their elevated partnership represents Chinese pet brands entrance on the global stage, backed by scientific expertise and ecological responsibility.
The companies signed the agreement during a ceremony at Gambol Pet’s R&D center in Shanghai. During this, Bjørn Wallentin, senior vice president of Global Sales at Aker QRILL, presented Gambol Pet with an invitation to join an Antarctic journey focused on penguin conservation. Following the ceremony, Aker QRILL representatives toured Gambol Pet’s R&D center.
